On November 11, 2016 James released a new solo album. The album is a five song instrumental album in an electronic punk style. The all instrumental album is accompanied by a poem called, Cancer In Treble City. A music video for ‘The Pollution Is Killing Me’ was made by Adam Muraki.
The album can be downloaded for free with the poem and some extras here.
If you want to purchase a physical album you can do so at our bandcamp site.
Here is the album release flyer designed by Greg Maxwell
Greg Maxwell also designed some cool new T-shirts with a swamp thing design available to order at ourbandcamp page.
All in all it was really fun to put together this album. I had dreamed of making this type of music for years and was happy to get a grant from the city to help out with some of the financial costs associated with the writing process.
As for other JOLATV news. The Villains have recorded two new songs in November at Polaris Studios in Windsor, ON. We had an awesome experience at the studio and got a few really good takes. We will release the songs once they are done getting mixed and continue recording new songs for our upcoming album, Wild Goose Jack. Stay tuned friends.
We’re releasing a new song called Dumpsters. The song is, as Steve put it, a “cautionary tale for young bands.” We recorded the track in March at Sound Foundry Studios in Kingsville with Producer Brett Humber who recorded our last full-length On The Banks of The Detroit River.
We recorded the song live off the floor and chose the fourth and last take. We played it faster than planned and liked the result. This is the first studio recording Bryan has played bass on and he brings the heat. The single is available to buy at our bandcamp page.
We filmed and edited the music video ourselves featuring various street art in downtown Windsor. Hope you enjoy.
We’re entering the studio in June to record our next single called The West End.
We think you’ll be very pleased.

We are releasing the first single of a series of singles that will eventually be a record called, Wild Goose Jack. This song is called ‘Back Then’. You can download it here ‘Back Then’‘. It is an old song written back for The Invisible Album but the lyrics were finished up last year and The Villains added some spunk to the track. It was recorded at SharkTank Productions Studio last year and the vocals added last month. The track was produced by Mark Plancke and we think he did a fantastic job. Windsor/Essex County bands should get familiar with him. We will be releasing our new album one song at a time as we think this makes more sense in this new internet world we now live in. Stay tuned for the next single….
It’s finally here!!! We’re releasing a new full-length album called, On The Banks Of The Detroit River on CD and 12″ vinyl. The album was recorded mostly live with all of the band in the same room. The record was produced by Brett Humber at Sound Foundry Studios in Kingsville, ON.
We’re releasing the album with a concert at The Olde Walkerville Theatre in Windsor, ON. Tickets are $7 in advance and $10 at the door. They can be purchased at Dr.Disc, Phog Lounge, The Windsor Beer Exchange or online https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/james-o-l-and-the-villains-album-release-tickets-12418966463.
We are excited about this summer. We’ve got some great shows happening, we’re playing some really cool festivals and most of all we’re putting out a FULL-LENGTH RECORD! It’s been a long time since our album ‘Alive At The Colch!’ hit the scene back in 2010. We broke some rules back then by offering the album as a free download which has since become a common practice for indie bands. We’ve got some new tricks up our sleeve for this next release so check back here for updates about the new album and info on upcoming shows…
James’ solo album is out now. Our album release at The Capitol Theatre was a big success and so fun. Thanks everyone that made it out for that. The physical CD can be bought at Dr.Disc in Windsor and digital versions are online at the itunes store.
We’re proud to present the music video for ‘Yellow Gold’ from James’ solo record, For The World Is Hollow And I Have Touched The Sky. The video was created by Eric Boucher and filmed during one afternoon. The video opens in West End Windsor, travels down Huron Church and ends at Point Pelee.
